Riptide Lacrosse

About Us

About Us

the home of delray beach lacrosse

Delray Beach Riptide Lacrosse was founded in 2008 as a 501c3 non-profit to run youth lacrosse for the City of Delray Beach. For the past 15+ years we have been a member of the South Florida Youth Lacrosse League (SFYLL), and we are members of USA Lacrosse. All coaches must pass mandatory background checks and are required to participate in annual coaching, concussion, and other trainings.

We believe in the power of lacrosse to develop the mental and physical character of our youth through the values of hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect of self and others.

To honor and grow the game of lacrosse in Delray Beach and surrounding communities, while enriching the lives of our youth and fostering a lifelong love of the sport.

To cultivate a love of the sport lacrosse, and to instill in our members a respect for the historical roots of the ancient sport called “The Creator’s Game”.

Jennifer has been a part of Riptide from its inception over 15 years ago, serving as a Director since 2011. Her tireless dedication to Delray lacrosse has been instrumental in growing the program over the years. She is also a Kindergarten teacher with the Palm Beach County School District.

Mike McConville

Mike has been coaching for Delray Riptide girls lacrosse for 5 years. He also coaches Florida Elite girls travel lacrosse, as well as girls lacrosse at Unity School in Delray Beach. In addition, he serves as a Riptide Board Member and Director. His two daughters are Riptide players. Mike’s outstanding dedication to the Riptide program and to girls lacrosse in Delray have helped grow the sport and program.

Mike played lacrosse middie for 4 years at Bridgewater State in Massachusetts. Post college he played 3 years as a Second Row for the Boston Rugby Football Club in the US Rugby Super League. On and off the field, Mike is a passionate, innovative leader with experience launching five businesses from inception to profit. He currently owns a consulting business catering to global StartUps.

“My passion for coaching comes from the joy I receive in watching the players improve over time. I like to teach the girls that the weakest ‘muscle’ in their body is their brains, helping them build the confidence to step out of their comfort zone and achieve things they didn’t believe they could do. Recreational lacrosse is intended to teach the love of the game and help players of every skill level find a way to contribute.”

  • Played Lacrosse at St.John Paul Academy in Boca Raton from ’92–’95 under US Lacrosse Hall of Famer Chris Kane
  • Riptide Board Member
  • Navy 3 years and FL Army National Guard 5 years
  • Both sons have played Riptide in addition to his nephews

“I love coaching and just being on the fields. I like to teach the boys to have commitment, heart, and hustle. My focus is: ‘hustle beats talent’ and ‘ground balls win games’. I believe in teaching kids the importance of being committed to a team, being open to learning, and listening. The least experienced players are as important to me as the best players on my team. Each player has their own place on our team.”
