No experience needed! We have players come out for the first time and we have some who have played for a long time.

Full equipment is required for recreational league and some of our other programs. For camps and clinics, please check that program's page.

  • Boys: boys’ stick, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, cleats, mouth guard (we recommend getting a mouth guard you can attach to the helmet!)
  • Girls: girls’ stick, goggles, mouth guard, cleats, helmet is optional

You can buy gear locally at Lacrosse Unlimited in Boca Raton or Dick's Sporting Goods. Online, you can check Amazon and there are many lacrosse stores.

We know it's a lot but it's required by the League for the safety of your children.

We recommend asking around at your child's school, in social groups, etc. to borrow or buy used equipment.

There are no tryouts. If your child wants to play, we will place them on a team — there is a place for everyone at Riptide!

Games take place on Saturdays starting in February through late April. We usually have a few Saturdays off around Spring Break and Easter.

The game schedule will be posted online in January. Check it regularly and bookmark the link as there may be changes during the season.

To view your team's schedule, visit the Online Schedule and select your child's team:

Our local governing body SFYLL requires all players to have an active USA Lacrosse membership, which provides insurance coverage for both players and teams. 100% membership is mandatory. You’ll need your USA Lacrosse membership number to register on our site. If you’re already a member, you can look up your membership number or renew it here.

To learn more about the insurance program, visit the USA Lacrosse website.

When you register, you will indicate your child's uniform size and we will order them in bulk. There is no additional charge — uniforms are included in the registration price. Uniforms will be handed out prior to the first game. They are different each year. *Late registrations may not receive uniforms by the first game.

Size charts:

Every child will receive one uniform included with registration. If you lose your uniform, you can order a new one through Signature Locker.

8U–14U practices two evenings a week. 6U practices one evening per week. Visit the rec league page for details and let us know if you have any questions.

All practices are held at our home field:

Seacrest Sports Complex
2505 Seacrest Blvd.
Delray Beach, FL 33447

We can practice and play in the rain so long as there is no lightning or severe weather. Practice is always on unless you are notified by your coach or team parent, or email, text, or social media that it has been canceled. We always want to practice(!) but the City of Delray Beach makes the call based on weather and field condition.

Please make sure you've added any parent or guardian you want to receive alerts into our registration system

Yes! You can purchase Riptide gear and swag at Signature Locker.

(Please remember, a uniform is included in registration so you don't need to order one. However, you can order a replacement uniform if you lose yours.)

SFYLL (South Florida Youth Lacrosse League) does not hold a playoff tournament. The focus of the rec reason is to introduce young players to the game, enhance their experience as they continue playing, and build lacrosse and teamwork skills.

Travel lacrosse (also called “Club” lacrosse) takes place outside of the recreational season. It’s a great way for kids to advance their skill level and stay active in the sport. The seasons are shorter than rec, and usually include several weekend-long tournaments (instead of standalone games) per season.

Local and regional teams compete regionally, while state and national teams travel throughout the country. Many of our Riptide players play Fall (October through early December) and Spring (late April thru early June) travel lacrosse out of Delray or nearby towns. Some players also do the shorter winter seasons, and many state and national teams have year-long commitments and include summer travel.

The team that plays out of Delray Beach on the Seacrest fields is Florida Elite Lacrosse.

Reach out to Elite for info.

To explore other local teams, a good starting point is the USA Lacrosse directory.

Yes! Please check out our coaches page for details. If you are a parent or guardian of a player, you can volunteer in the registration system when signing your child up. Or send us an email.

The purpose of a team parent is to organize team communications so the coach can focus more on coaching. Responsibilities will depend on the age of the players and what each team and coach need but some basic items include:

  • Sending reminders about games, game times, fields, etc.
  • Sending alerts if there are changes or rain delays/cancellations
  • For little kids, having different parents bring a healthy snack to games each week

Because kids play from different schools and towns and all the families don't all know each other, you can also make a list of names and numbers so everyone can cheer for each other's kids — this is especially useful in boys lacrosse when you have no idea who is under each helmet!

Being a team parent shouldn't take up a lot of time, but is a nice way to help build team spirit and cohesiveness.

Please reach out to us if you would like to volunteer or have questions.

Yes, we will have photos taken that will be available for purchase. In addition, we have the highly experienced and talented Coyote Magic available for professional action shots. We'll share info during the season, but you can check out his work and contact him on his website
